I had the wonderful opportunity to show my art along with 40+ local amazing artists, in an art show orchestrated by

The Singularity, Love Brightly.

When I was first given the theme of the art show I struggled to find inspiration for my pieces. I wanted to stay with a warm color palette, to me love is warm so that is how I wanted my pieces to feel. These are my three pieces, one of which my roommate, and one of my best friends wrote a beautiful piece of literature for.

I am beyond grateful, thankful, and blessed to not only enjoy my job, but have the opportunity to showcase my passion in art on the walls of Sandhill Crane Vineyards. Most of the pieces that I displayed were acrylic on canvas. With the exception of a few pieces that I experimented with mixed media, which included the wine bottles that I handled every day, pouring wine for my customers. With every bottle that I opened, I would throw away various colors of foil that cover the cork of each bottle. I realized that these small little foil tops had a beauty of their own and incorporated them in some of my pieces as well. These are the pieces that I proudly displayed;

I love to paint, but what I love most about painting is when someone requests a specific piece from me. I love taking their idea and translating it onto a canvas.

The first request I had was from a beautiful young mother who was looking for some art to put into her sons playroom, she told me he was really into dinosaurs so I ran with it.

I made this one first, going with cool colors. It took me some time, I couldn’t get into the groove at first, but once it clicked I had it finished within the day;

and started on the second warmer piece;

I went into this one only knowing that I wanted it to be warm, to counteract the very cool piece I created. Then I was struck with the idea of making a sunrise effect, followed by my signature messy-ness and paint speckles.

The second request I got was sent to me in a message on the FB page I recently created, I had never met this young woman before, but absolutely fell in love with her idea. She told me that she loved Disney princesses, and at first I was thinking “utoh.. I’ve never done anything girly and princess like before..” I am always ready, and willing for a new challenge, but then she continued to explain her idea, which was a Disney, female villain. I was hooked! I asked what she wanted exactly, in terms of color scheme and which villain but she told me she loved my style and my sexier paintings, and gave me free rein.

This is what resulted;

I could not be more happy, and pleased with her reaction of excitement and love for the piece. She truly flattered me.

I look forward to any and all requests, and ideas for paintings that will come to me in the future. Of course I love to paint, just to paint and let my own imagination run wild, but I also love the collaboration and the happiness I can give from taking someones idea and transforming it into art.

Last month, the Oxford five-piece unveiled a video for “Inhaler” and appeared on “Later… With Jools Holland” where they also performed another new song titled “My Number”. Above is the studio take of that cut and it clearly shows that FOALS are addicted to retro grooves as the recording flexes a downpour of strings and percussion that make unorthodox rock from the 80s’ look bland. The song is set to appear on their upcoming album so hit the play button.

Foals’ Holy Fire is out February 12th via Warner Bros.

CONOR OBERST
MASSEY HALL, TORONTO / DECEMBER 8TH

With an incredible catalogue spanning over 15 albums, it comes as no surprise that CONOR OBERST’s solo gig at Massey Hall would be a tender yet powerful showing of intricate songwriting. The Omaha instrumentalist picked up a guitar and took a seat as he dived into his solo work, a few new songs (“Kick”, “You Are Your Mother’s Child”) and the heavy-hearted classic Lifted Or The Story Is In The Soil, Keep Your Ear To The Ground. As much as Oberst tried to exhibit variety through piano works and a clever sense of humour, nothing was more invigorating than the sight of him painlessly influencing songs such as “Lua” and “Waste Of Paint” to blossom underneath the dim theatre lights.

Everyday I day dream about what I want my future to look like, my career.

I want to paint for a living, I want to create original works of art for each and every person that wants one. I love being given an idea, color scheme, a photo, and painting it the way I interpret it onto a canvas. It’s my passion. I could never explain how amazing it feels to have someone want a piece of something that you made, sometimes it’s hard to say goodbye but the feeling of another person seeing, enjoying, wanting the vision that you created is 100% worth it.

I can literally see myself doing what I love, working from home, painting. Oh what bliss that would bring me.

I just finished this piece, I haven’t named it or anything. In fact I really hated it at first & thought I was going to scrap it, as usual.

It seems I can’t tear myself away from cool colors with a splash of warmth. I love how this has turned out, and I think I’m going to leave it alone and declare it done.

I’ve been hit with a whole new inspiration, not for an exact painting or anything like that. To make my dream a reality. I want to create for people, inspire them, give them something they love. A piece of art to look at everyday, that they want to look at over and over every day, and even see something new in it. I’m going to work my ass off. What’s the point of all this technology if we don’t use it in our favor to catapult ourselves into the world, to be seen, heard. I have a voice, and I want everyone to see it.
